Making dynamic conductive charging a reality

Imagine a future where electric vehicles can recharge seamlessly as they drive, eliminating the need to stop and plug in. That’s the bold vision behind ELONROAD, a Lund-based scale-up pioneering dynamic conductive charging.

By embedding charging technology directly into roads, Elonroad tackles some of the biggest challenges of electrification: reducing peak power demand, freeing up space otherwise needed for chargers, and lowering vehicle costs by reducing battery size. No wonder ports and other energy-intensive sectors are paying close attention.

World's largest low-temp district heating system

Utility company KRAFTRINGEN has developed one of the world’s largest low-temperature district heating systems in the city of Lund, which incorporate surplus heat from two of Sweden's largest materials reserach facilities - MAX IV and the European Spallation Source (ESS), rather than relying on high-grade fossil fuels.

The system delivers heat at a supply temp. of about 65 °C, with return temps around 35 °C, much lower than traditional district heating networks. The system connects multiple customers in newly developed areas, using innovative infrastructure.

City decarbonisation in action

The Port of Trelleborg is making major investments in renewable energy to cut emissions and strengthen its role as a local energy hub. This clean energy not only powers port operations but will also supply electricity to ships through new shore power connections, reducing emissions at berth.

In close collaboration with local energy company, TRELLEBORGS ENERGI, the port is building a model for a fossil-free future. Trelleborgs Energi provides electricity contracts from fossil-free sources and smart services that help businesses and households monitor and optimise energy use in real time. This partnership shows how local collaboration can accelerate the transition to renewable energy while boosting innovation and resilience.

Pushing carbon capture forward

Filbornaverket, owned by ÖRESUNDSKRAFT in Helsingborg, is a waste-powered plant that turns leftover, non-recyclable waste into both heat and electricity. Instead of transporting waste far away, the facility uses what’s available locally to supply district heating and electricity to homes and businesses in the area. The approach helps lower local energy costs and makes good use of resources that would otherwise go unused.

Öresundskraft is also developing plans to add full-scale carbon capture and storage at Filbornaverket. If approved, the CCS system would capture up to ~200,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year — both from fossil and biogenic sources — and store it to stop it from reaching the atmosphere.
