Sustainable Urban Development in our DNA

Skåne's strength is linked to energy, waste management and wastewater management, including storm-water management. Malmö, Skåne’s largest city, is renowned for its sustainable city planning and green space integration, offering attractive opportunities for environmentally-conscious projects.

Municipalities leading city development

Malmö has transformed former industrial areas into eco-friendly neighbourhoods, such as the Western Harbour, which is powered by 100% renewable energy and serves as a model for sustainable urban development worldwide. Lund's Brunnshög district and Helsingborg's H+ district are also key examples of innovative sustainable areas.

Strengths in green energy & waste management

The region is described as "especially outstanding within biogas" in the energy field plus areas like wastewater treatment, biogas production, storm-water management, combined heat and power, incineration, recycling, and the circular economy.

Innovative sustainable tech companies

Evidence of Skåne's innovation capacity is reflected in the companies from our region: Orbital Systems (water-saving showers), ENJAY (heat recovery), Elonroad ( electric road tech for conductive charging during motion), or global companies like Alfa Laval (heat exchangers).
